Applying for PBO: Process & Requirements

General Questions

What are the basic eligibility requirements?

To apply for a role with the EFPRP, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old, or meet the legal age of majority in your country of residence, provided that this age is not below 18.
  • Reside within the European Union (EU).
  • Meet the specific qualifications, skills, and other requirements stated in the relevant position or volunteering offer.
The EU residency requirement is based on legal, contractual, administrative, and financial risk considerations associated with engaging PBOs internationally. It is not based on nationality, ethnicity, race, or any other protected personal characteristic.

What is the typical timeline for the recruitment process?

The recruitment timeline varies depending on the position, the number of applicants, and the organization's current needs. The current standard timeframe for receiving an initial response to an application is 48 hours. Further stages of the process may take longer depending on the position and circumstances.

How can I check the status of my application?

You may contact the Human Resources & Recruitment Department (HR&RD) directly to inquire about the status of your application.

What happens after I submit my application?

The HR&RD will review your application against the requirements of the relevant position. If your qualifications, experience, and profile align with the offer, you may be contacted to proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.

How long does it take to hear back?

The current standard response timeframe is 48 hours. This refers to the initial response regarding your application; it does not necessarily mean that the entire recruitment process will be completed within 48 hours.

If you have not received a response after a reasonable period, you may contact the HR&RD for an update.

What documents do I need to provide?

For all positions, applicants are required to provide:

  • A Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A valid official identification document, such as a government-issued ID, passport, or driving licence.

The identification document must:

  • Be valid.
  • Include your date of birth.
  • Use Latin characters.

The EFPRP uses an ID Verification Service to verify the integrity and validity of submitted identification documents.

For information about how your personal data is processed and protected, please consult our Privacy Policy.

What kind of background checks are conducted?

Background checks depend on the position and its requirements. Where applicable, these may include criminal-record checks, reference checks, and verification of educational or professional qualifications.

Interviews

What can I expect during the interview process?

Depending on the position, the recruitment process may include one or more interview stages, including video or in-person interviews.

You may be asked about:

  • Your CV and previous experience.
  • Your skills and qualifications.
  • Your motivation for joining the EFPRP.
  • Your understanding of the position.
  • How you would approach specific situations relevant to the role.
  • Your professional or volunteering goals.

What should I wear to the interview?

We recommend dressing appropriately and professionally for an interview, including virtual interviews. Business or smart-casual attire is generally suitable.

However, your choice of clothing does not determine the outcome of your application.

Offers, Agreements & Benefits

Are EFPRP positions paid?

At present, all EFPRP positions are entirely pro bono and therefore do not provide monetary remuneration or a salary.

What benefits does the EFPRP offer?

Depending on availability, the EFPRP may obtain grants, discounts, reductions, or other benefits from specific services, attractions, or companies for its PBOs.

Availability and eligibility may vary. For current information, please contact the Human Resources & Recruitment Department (HR&RD).

What is the probation period?

New PBOs generally undergo a probationary period of approximately 15 to 30 calendar days. This period allows both the EFPRP and the PBO to assess whether the position, responsibilities, and working relationship are a suitable fit.

What should I do if I receive an offer?

Carefully review the terms and conditions of the relevant volunteer agreement before accepting. If anything is unclear, you are encouraged to contact the HR&RD with any questions before proceeding.
