Field Volunteering: Requirements, Safety & Liability

Important Distinction: Field (Volunteer) vs. Internal Roles (PBO)

It is vital to distinguish Field Operations Volunteers from internal administrative staff, which are referred to as PBOs (Pro-Bono Operatives). Field Operations Volunteers serve as local agents of change belonging to one of our EOZ (European Operational Zone) Volunteer Networks, spanning Zones 1 through 8 of the EFPRP European Zones Map. They operate externally to focus on community action, environmental restoration, and immediate assistance. These volunteers do not hold internal decision-making powers or access to the EFPRP’s central administration. Conversely, Administrative Pro-bono Positions are internal roles, such as Legal, HR, or IT, that maintain full access to the nonprofit’s infrastructure. This article specifically addresses the Field Operations track.

Available Field Positions

Within the EOZ Volunteer Networks, there are currently two primary designations. The Field Operations Volunteer forms the core of our mission, performing general task-force duties on the ground. These duties encompass reforestation efforts such as tree planting, crisis support for affected populations, and educational outreach regarding fire safety.

For experienced field volunteers, the EOZ Representative serves as a leadership designation. This role acts as the direct liaison between the local Volunteer Network and EFPRP Headquarters, taking responsibility for coordinating local teams and reporting directly to the Volunteer Coordination team.

Operational Notice: As our network expands, the Human Resources (HR) department currently processes all applications for both Field Operations Volunteers and internal staff positions. Please be advised that as volume increases, the management of Field Volunteers will eventually transfer entirely to the specialized Volunteer Coordination & Operations Department (VC&O). Until that transition is officially announced, please continue to direct all inquiries to HR.

Eligibility & Insurance Requirements

To ensure safety and operational integrity across all EOZ Volunteer Networks, candidates must meet specific criteria prior to deployment. Applicants must satisfy strict regional mandates, which require all field volunteers to be at least 18 years of age.

Additionally, for legal and contractual purposes, all operatives must maintain official residency within a European Union member state. Furthermore, the EFPRP does not provide primary health, medical, or travel insurance.

All field volunteers are strictly required to hold valid personal health and accident insurance that covers active field work in their deployment zone before arriving on-site. Volunteers must also possess adequate physical fitness suitable for outdoor conditions.

Liability & Wrongdoing Notice

All operatives are held to rigorous standards of safety, ethics, and community respect. Field volunteers and PBOs assume full legal and financial liability for any intentional misconduct, unauthorized actions, gross negligence, or damage executed with malicious intent. This universal standard of liability applies fully to all personnel, tenure, or operational tier. Any action taken with malicious intent or outside official EFPRP operational authorizations will result in the immediate termination of volunteer status and direct referral to the relevant legal authorities.

How to Apply

We adhere to a strict identification process to ensure the safety and organization of our field teams.

1. Initiation: Contact us via email at hr@efprp.org with the subject line "Request for Field Operations Candidature" to express your intent to join a field team. 
2. Identification (Can. ID): Our team will process your request and issue a unique Candidature Identification (Can. ID) alongside the official Field Operations Volunteer Application form.
3. Submission & Deployment: Return the completed form referencing your Can. ID. The HR department typically reviews and issues an approval or rejection within 24 to 48 hours, up to a maximum of seven days. Upon approval, you will be assigned to the appropriate EOZ Network based on your geographical location.
